Giant poppies

Mohnblüten bei NachtLeuchtende XXL Gartenobjekte

Poppies are the epitome of delicacy and bright color. But not every poppy blossom is as ephemeral as they are often sung about in romantic poems:

On the occasion of a landscape exhibition by the organizer “Garten Kulturzentrum Niedersachsen – Park der Gärten”, ACCENTFORM manufactured 10 giant poppy blossom sculptures from glass fiber reinforced plastic – delicate and sensitive like the original, but stable, durable, safe and functional like all ACCENTFORM sculptures.

The wall thickness of a poppy blossom was only about 2-3 mm thanks to the highly stable and durable GRP laminate used, and a diameter of about 1.5 x 1.4m was chosen for the asymmetrical funnel shape of the blossom. After laminating each shape, sturdy tubes were mounted to the bottom of the flower to act as flower stems or mounting brackets. Two opposite holes in the flower funnel serve as water outlets – thus ensuring function and statics even in bad weather.

With the color “Fire Red”, the sculptures were fully adapted to the original occurring in the wild and achieve the same delicate effect as a real poppy blossom through translucency. A lamp embedded in each of the 10 poppy blossoms creates an extraordinary light effect that makes the blossom shine from within. The assembly and installation of the lamps was checked in detail before delivery and delivered to the client after successful testing.

Fibreglass Boulders

Project: Five-Star Hotel Kameha Grand  blumenmuster-11-bl

For the atrium of the new hotel building and for the traffic circle in Bonn, ACCENTform produced, supplied and coated 14 different sized fibreglass boulders of 1000 mm (3.3 ft), 1500 mm (5 ft) and 2500 mm (8.2 ft) in diameter. The fibreglass boulders have polystyrene – rigid foam core that, due to the fibreglass 5 mm (0.2 in) thick coating, is weather resistant.

The designer Marcel Wanders (moooi) from Amsterdam, developed the exclusive design of fibreglass boulders. They were carried out, according to for the Five-Star Hotel Kameha Grand typical flower design.

Golden Huge Vase

Fibreglass Tree Pot for Five-Star Hotel Kameha Grand

skizze-03-sk

ACCENTform produced, supplied, coated, and assembled record-breaking sized transportable fibreglass tree pots. They are made in the shape of a flower vase and are key design elements, placed in the atrium of the hotel’s new building. Another tree pot is centered at the traffic circle.

The 4.70m (15 feet) high and 4.20m (14 feet) wide fibreglass vases are self-supporting due to its GRP- sandwich structure. Although the vases, created in the new design, have a surface of about 60m² (645 ft²), the total weight of these lightweight constructions is only 500 kg (1100 lb) per vase.

Because today’s biotechnology is still unable to invent suitably sized flowers to match these vases, trees were planted instead. One item was additionally equipped with an accessible platform.

The surface of the fibreglass vase was finished with gold-metallic paint.

A “typical” road transport of oversized fibreglass vases is (almost) impossible, so we opted for the river source. These fibreglass items were transported by barge from the Mittelland Canal to the Rhine.

Loading on Trucks by Night

The loading process begins. By night, the large truck was loaded with the fibreglass tree pots to transport them to the shipping port and loaded at the Mittelland Canal, located approx. 12 km (7.45 miles) away.

A Barge Full of Vases

The loading on the barge “Susanne” in Duisburg begins – and afterwards it makes the trip to Bonn am Rhine.

06/10/2009, at 9:33 a.m. – The delivery is made, the crane is mounted, the installation progress of the vases begins…

At 2:48 p.m., the last of the four vases disappeared through the opening in the hotel’s roof. There are only two final steps to complete: the assembly and the interior construction – but that is another (picture) story.

Swimming Pools & Garden Ponds

Fiberglass  Swimming Pools and Garden Ponds

ACCENTform created on-site individual fibreglass swimming pools and koi ponds. For cost reasons the garden and koi ponds are, in most cases, sealed with film. A main disadvantage is, however, that the film cannot be crease-free assimilated to the pond shape, so the pond inhabitants’ waste collect all the creases. As result, water quality suffers from the resulting nitrogen depot. A GRP (glass-reinforced plastic) pond can be laminated on-site. The previously excavated terrain shape was coated with approximately 3 – 4 mm (0.1-0.2 in) thick fibreglass layers. All unevenness of the terrain was replicated, but the surface was still smooth and crease-free. It is also almost impossible to pierce the fibreglass laminate, because the glass fibers have a very high puncture resistance.  Due to the manufacturing process, it is useful to laminate the ponds´ surfaces up to approx. 100 m²/120 yds² (terrain surface).

Manufacturing process:

You design your pond, according to your requirements, and observe reasonable water exchange (inlet, outlet, planting, filter and spawning zones, etc.).

On-site we re-examine the construction and plan our manufacturing process. To have a successful manufacturing result, dry weather conditions with temperatures of at least 20 degrees are required. The previous day, the construction site was already set up, so that the production process was started at 8 a.m. For an area of approximately 150 m² (180 yds²), we needed about 12 hours of continuous work time. First, the terrain area has to be moisture free by means of the waterproof textile fibers or films. During the manufacturing process, we utilized a fiber spraying machine that squirts the glass fibers together with a resin mixture in any color. The sprayed layers have to be rolled (vented). A final resin sealing completes the surface coating and permanently protects the laminate from water damage.

Cost estimation for 150 m² (180 yds²) terrain surface with about 3 – 4 mm (0.1-0.2 in) thick fibreglass laminate:
