Above our heads: fascinating projection sphere in the Museum of the Future<\/h2>\n\n

We manufactured this projection sphere with a diameter of almost 3 m from GRP for the German Museum in Nuremberg. It was made from four segments and installed on site on the 8 m high concrete ceiling.<\/p>\n\n

First, a mold for a \u00bc ball segment had to be milled. This form was then molded with GRP in a thickness of 4 mm. Each of the four ball segments has an inner flange so that they could later be bolted together. A mounting opening with a diameter of 450 mm was provided.<\/p>\n\n

Three chains are attached to the ball to prevent it from swinging back and forth. 3 movable eyebolts were mounted on the ceiling to move the sphere at intervals of 2 meters. <\/p>\n\n

from the ceiling. Sling chains in accordance with DIN EN 812-2 quality class 8 with a load capacity of 1,120 kg were used for fastening.<\/p>\n\n

The sphere was painted in RAL 7035. And weighs approx. 300 kg.<\/p>\n\n

The projection sphere is intended as an oversized globe in the “System Earth” exhibition area. A simulation of the earth with its oceans, landscapes and cloud fields will be created by projecting 10 beamers.<\/p>\n\n
