Spheres for the cityquartier domaquarée

kugeln-cad-zeichnung

As a business and leisure location, the DomAquarée brings people from different areas together. Whether art, music or business – with a variety of activities, the DomAquarée presents itself as a place where people like to be surprised and entertained in an extraordinary way. At its prominent location between the Brandenburg Gate and
Alexanderplatz, the DomAquarée CityQuartier has developed into a center for IT, creative industries and new media. Quality of work, quality of life and quality of living are inseparable here.

The sought-after office and residential location has exclusive spaces and light, wide passages that provide first-class access to the various areas of the building. As part of the interior design in the entrance area of the new building, ACCENTFORM manufactured an ensemble of 57 spheres in sizes ranging from Ø 600mm to Ø 1500 mm on behalf of two Berlin garden and landscape architecture firms.

The spheres were manufactured in a wall thickness of approx. 4mm in hand laminate and then painted in structurally coordinated shades of green-blue and pearl-beige. Some of the components could stand on their own due to a base plate, others were screwed to a metal stand. Some spheres were ordered with central openings in the top, which would serve as plant troughs.en.

After completion, ACCENTFORM delivered the spheres to Berlin and, with its assemblers, took over the professional assembly on metal stands on site. The new ensemble of spheres with its well-coordinated proportions and colors welcomes residents, office workers and visitors with an ambience of positive energy and is an original, effective enhancement of the interior.

Floating faucet

Faszinierende Illusion – ein Blickfang für die Besucher

The principal of the “floating faucet” is based on an optical illusion. In a transparent tube, water is pumped into the faucet. The water flows and then, falls back down on the outside of the clear tube. Because the transparent tube with the water intake cannot be reflected in the “waterfall”, the impression is created that the water comes out of nowhere.

The floating faucet is an eye catcher for waterworks and gas- and water installation companies. The coated item costs 6800€ plus value-added tax (VAT).

For the building material dealer, MeckRohr, we designed by means of CAD, an oversized fibreglass outlet valve, made of hard foam and covered with 2 mm thick fibreglass laminate. Subsequently, the outlet valve was finished with an acrylic varnish.

Den schwebenden Wasserhahn können wir in folgenden Ausführungen anbieten:

Mirrored Spherical Lamp

Enlightening moments with mirrored globe lamp

The Fritz Gruber place in Cologne shines from now, on in a whole new light: ACCENTFORM created a mirrored LED spherical lamp according to the design specifications of the lighting designer Burkhard Wand from Hamburg. The lamp was processed by Carl Petersen / Hamburg and precisely positioned.

Hanging high above the street, the spherical lamp, made of stainless steel «lights up» accented the public space and creates an impressive evening shadow-play of people, trees and other movable or immovable “characters”.  In a simple way, this creates temporary pictures and makes the place an ever-changing work of art.

ACCENTFORM manufactured the fibreglass sphere of 1.25 meters (4 feet) in diameter and about 5 mm (1/5 inch) thick.  The light-ball illuminates an exactly predetermined square area using high performance LEDs. This fibreglass object includes inside mounting lugs and rotary flanges in order to increase the rigidity and yield a precise cutout in the spherical shape.

For the mirror-like glossy surface ACCENTform used a special metal coating from VeroMetal. In contrast to conventional chemical mirror-like finish coating processes, the stainless steel jacket was applied by means of a 95% metal powder content in a 1.0 mm (.04 inch) thick layer. Due to this rather «thick» metal coating, the surface ensures a very high weather resistance. Accurately smoothed by hand and extensively polished, the impressive spherical lamp provides not only enlightening moments, but also tends to overshadow the conversation.

Mirror ball – ILA Berlin

With a sphere diameter of 3 metres, ACCENTFORM produced the world’s largest one-piece mirror ball for the ILA exhibition in Berlin. The idea was to reproduce a mirror-image and distorted lettering on the ceiling of the exhibition hall through the mirror ball in such a way that the lettering on the ball appears straight, while all other images in the ball appear distorted.

The production of mirrored objects requires high technical manufacturing expenditures and a very exclusive know-how. Mirrored surfaces do not forgive the slightest mistake. Every spot, every unevenness is immediately visible due to the mirror effect. That is why every step in the production of the mirrored sphere requires the highest quality workmanship.

First, the 3m – sphere is laminated from two halves with a wall thickness of approx. 4 mm in glass-fibre reinforced plastic. Then the two halves are assembled to form a sphere. In order to hide the seam permanently and safely, the area is sanded from the outside and covered with an additional GRP laminate. The raw sphere is then annealed for hours at approx. 75° Celsius. The annealing process (heating over a longer period of time) causes the air bubbles trapped in the laminate to expand and become visible on the surface of the sphere. These defects are pierced and sanded out during the annealing process. These defects are then filled. At the same time, the annealing process results in “post-curing”. The high temperatures stimulate the non-cross-linked molecules to bond. The proportion of chemically unbound molecules in the fresh GRP laminate can be up to 3 %. After annealing, the laminate is cured to such an extent that no more deformation due to “creep” can take place in the long term. Only now is the basis created for levelling out the smallest geometric unevenness by filling and straightening. The sphere is then given a coat of filler, which forms an initial barrier between the GRP laminate and the subsequent mirror coating.

The further processing of the mega sphere then took place at the Blach company in Ansbach. For decades, Blach has specialised in mirroring the surfaces of works of art, vehicles and luxury products. Products that are mirrored using a chemical spraying process must be completely rinsed with an aqueous solution during the mirroring process. Thus, the sphere had to be picked up and rotated by means of an oversized skewer.

Diamond-Shape Artwork – Audi

Artwork for Audi at the Design Miami / 2013

The Audi exhibition stand at the Design Miami / 2013 is dedicated to the Audi Sport. Two super sports cars, well lit, were presented in front of the ACCENTform manufactured red diamond-shaped backdrop.

The artwork consisted of nearly 30 different sized diamond-shape elements, from 50 x 74 cm (19.7 x 29 in) up to 2.40 m x 2.07m (8 x 6.8 feet) in size.  These pieces, were made of a fibreglass sandwich panel in order to improve their rigidity. One diamond-shape element (sidewalls and cover) was produced by us utilizing manufacturedmolds. Then, all the produced parts were assembled and smoothed to remove all appearance of seams.

All elements were coated with a high-gloss finish in the typical Audi Sport colour- red.

The three-dimensional installation plays, in visual way, with the diamond-shape objects, the symbol of Audi Sport. These rhombi were hung on the wall, glued together to form a column, and suspended from the ceiling.

The main challenges in this project were the complexity of the shape and the surface treatment of the rhombi. All these elements were made with mirror-like surfaces.  This  called for an extremely high level of care.

We also made remarkably stable transportation racks, which were air and sea cargo worthy, to protect the sensitive surfaces during transport.

We were able to achieve the level of perfection as required by Audi.

We cooperated closely with our client and we would like to thank Expotechnik GmbH for its terrific cooperation.

For a realistic construction, our technical product designers scanned an original bottle by means of an area laser and then developed not only the geometry of the half shells, but they also shaped the corresponding transportation racks. Thus, these original showers, along with the festival music, could be sent on tour to various locations in Germany.

As always, the adherence to delivery dates and strict budget compliance by ACCENTform were commended by the client.  This allowed the Doyko agency to concentrate on other promotional activities. To the production connoisseur, you may have noticed that while everything appears to be from a single casting, the shells were produced by ACCENTform in much more efficient process – utilizing the hand lay-up method.

Highlight Wall For BMW

Two Brand New BMW Cars Were Presented in Front of the Highlight Exhibition Wall

The two BMW cars “drive” between our two-part exhibitions’ highlight walls in the spotlight of the “Auto Salon” in Geneva. The highlight of this extravagant background is the 183 diamond-shape light cutouts. The wall had the shape of two spherical sections and the corresponding sphere had a diameter of 16 m (17.5 yards).

One wall section was approximately 5.3 x 12.0 m (5.8 x 13.1 yd)and consisted of six single parts linked to each other. For the production of these parts, a large production mold of approximately 2.7 x 5.0 m (3 x 5.5 yd) in size was used. For the light cutouts – 183 molds. Through an economic, efficient, and computer-aided design, efforts spent on this production were reduced to a minimum. The light molds modeling board material were made by our five-axis industrial robot.

Due to precise positioning of molds on the production form, the wall sections were made geometrically accurate. In order to increase the rigidity of the wall elements, the honeycomb-shaped bracing was installed on the back of the wall.

The collaboration with our client ensured a smooth installation on the customer’s steel frame. For the job itself, we would like to thank the company Winkels Messebau.
