A theme park attraction
For an adventure park in Krumbach we were asked to produce an attraction called Cloud Catcher. Five huge, translucent clouds create a heavenly atmosphere for the carousel during the day and provide a bright, colorful atmosphere in the evening.
To produce the hollow giant clouds with a translucent surface, we used several of our production processes production processes. First, the giant clouds were made from polystyrene using our 3-axis milling machines milled and then coated with coated with polyurea. These molds were treated with release agent and then covered with GRP using the hand laminate process so that the surface remains stable yet translucent.
After curing, openings had to be cut into the clouds, which served a dual purpose: On the one hand, they were necessary to get the polystyrene cores out again and, on the other, they later served as maintenance hatches.
The clouds were painted with a translucent varnish in shades of purple and blue according to the customer’s wishes. varnished. We then carried out some light tests with programmable LED strips in various colors before the carefully packaged clouds made their way to the customer.
