ADVERTISING OBJECT MADE OF GFK – GIANT EGG
Eggs and unusual solutions have been a good combination at least since Columbus. This giant egg was also designed with this in mind. Instead of laboriously producing a positive mold, which would be difficult to round off, a plastic membrane was stretched over a two-dimensional mold and filled with air. The membrane was then hand laminating process molded with GRP. Finally, the system was mounted on a stable base plate.
FURTHER EXAMPLES
These other examples were first milled from 5-axis polystyrene and then glued together in our model shop.
For the surface, you can choose between raw polystyrene, GRP and
polyurea
to choose from. Styrofoam is the cheapest, lightweight but unfortunately not really hard-wearing and only suitable for indoor use. Polyurea is a spray plastic and a cheaper alternative to GRP. An object coated with polyurea can be painted and used outdoors. Due to the spraying process, the surface is more like a tangerine peel. If the surface is to be of very high quality and smooth, the egg is coated with GRP. Due to the high cost of surface treatment (repeated sanding/filling), the price is significantly higher than that of the other two variants.
