Classic art meets cutting-edge technology

The fusion of traditional aesthetics and cutting-edge manufacturing processes opens up entirely new dimensions for contemporary art. For the art exhibition “Romantic Rebellion,”, Accentform, as the technical partner, created an oversized figure: a 3.20-meter-tall reinterpretation of Michelangelo’s world-famous David statue, designed by the well-known graffiti artist Patrik Wolters, alias BeNeR1.

This impressive work of art , “Monument to a Writer,” deliberately breaks with convention. The “Writer” depicted is wearing jeans and sneakers, holding a spray can in his hand, and symbolizes rebellion against rigid rules. Not only was the sculpture’s design conceived by the artist himself, but he also executed the final painting . The classically designed pedestal, which is chipped in places, was adorned with graffiti elements, thereby placing it within an urban context. The rest of the body was modeled after its historical counterpart and given a marble-like appearance using spray paint.

The Creation Process: From Concept to XXL Object

  • Digital Modeling: Based on the artist’s sketches, our experts created a highly precise 3D model on the computer.
  • Precise XXL 3D Printing: The XXL figure was divided into strategic segments, printed on our large-format 3D printers, and then glued together with a perfect fit.
  • High-end surface finish: To achieve a flawless, elegant finish, the sculpture was coated with an ultra-thin, durable layer of fiberglass (GFK), then hand-smoothed and sanded.
  • Hybrid manufacturing of the platform: The open-cell base was precisely milled from rigid foam using CNC technology and also covered with fiberglass-reinforced plastic.
  • The artistic finishing touch: After we applied the white primer, BeNeR1 personally decorated the surface on-site to give it a realistic marble look.

Despite its imposing size, the sculpture is lightweight, easy to transport, and completely weather-resistant. It is ideal not only for indoor use but also for permanent outdoor display.
