High-gloss stainless steel works of art in the water

We created a total of seven organic “movement sculptures”, so-called bubbles, for the Paderborn artist Manfred Webel from stainless steel. They became part of the art campaign “Crime Scene Paderborn 2025” and were partly located in the river Pader, along which the 100-day art event took place.

The bubbles are the Pader, her ambassadors, with whom she enters into a dialog with plants, animals, people and the world. “Bubbles go ashore, climb up the wall and take to the skies. (Manfred Webel)

Manfred Webel’s summary of 100 days of “be Pader, my friend” in Paderborn

“I was able to realize the art project “be Pader, my friend” at Paderborn’s place of origin, the sources of the Dielenpader, with a view of the cathedral and the replica of the imperial palace. As part of “Tatort Paderborn 2025 – Der Fluss bin ich”, I installed organic and highly polished bodies in, on and by the Pader – popularly known as Paderbubbles, to express my love for the Pader. Five of these highly polished stainless steel movement sculptures, each the size of a squatting person, form the power center from which a multi-layered and sustainable participatory program develops. “Be Pader my friend” allows the Pader itself to have its say as a living river and establishes the Dielenpader as a place of dialog – playfully, poetically and together with the local people…

…The positive response of thousands of people to the “Paderbubbles” makes me very happy, as I wanted to create something very specific for this significant place in our city that is equally universal.”
