Lightweight GRP boulders for landscaping

For the atrium of the KAMEHA Grand in Bonn, ACCENTFORM produced 14 individually manufactured boulders with diameters of 1, 1.5 and 2.5 meters. The design of the surfaces is kept in the look of the 5-star hotel.

This was designed by the Dutch designer Marcel Wanders (moooi) from Amsterdam; the central element here is the floral pattern.

The first step in producing the boulders was to manufacture a hard foam core. This was CNC-milled from polystyrene. This was followed by manual sheathing with GRP. The GRP has a material thickness of 5mm and is therefore weather-resistant laminated. This was followed by the surface treatment of the individual objects. For this purpose, the surface of each boulder was sanded, filled, primed and painted with great care. Last but not least, the erratic blocks were covered with foil. This gives them their characteristic appearance and is entirely in the design of Marcel Wanders (moooi).

From now on, these unique boulders will be the eye-catcher of the KAMEHA Grand Hotel in Bonn. With his floral pattern design, Dutch designer Marcel Wanders has created a central element that fits perfectly into the aesthetics of the 5-star hotel. In future, the boulders will symbolize design, aesthetics and craftsmanship.
