The fibreglass lampshades were created as exhibits for the DOUGLAS HOLDING perfume. They were handmade, using lay-up method, and were about 2500 mm (8.2 feet) in diameter. The stability of the hemi-spheres was provided by its internal component: a 4 mm (1/15 in) thick panel.
For an event at the Mariott Hotel Berlin ACCENTFORM manufactured 6 lampshades in glass fibre reinforced laminate with a diameter of 1910 mm.
The outer sides of the shades are smooth and the inner sides in GRP optic are covered with a white topcoat.
The smooth sides were painted in signalbrown, chromium oxide green, powder blue, sand yellow, puce and claret red, as the client decided. The inside of the shades kept the surface texture of the GRP laminate even after varnishing.
The lamp shades were attached to the ceiling in three points by the use of lifting eyebolts.
