Illuminating moments with the mirrored globe light

Fritz-Gruber-Platz in Cologne now shines in a completely new light: ACCENTFORM realized a mirrored LED spherical luminaire according to the design specifications of lighting designer Burkhard Wand from Hamburg, which was further processed and precisely positioned by the company Carl Petersen/Hamburg.
Suspended high up, the stainless steel globe luminaire “illuminates” the public square and creates an impressive shadow play of people, trees and other moving or stationary “protagonists” at night. The resulting temporary images turn the site into a constantly changing work of art in a simple way.

The GRP sphere manufactured by ACCENTFORM has a diameter of 1.25 meters and a wall thickness of approx. 5 mm. As the spherical luminaire is intended to illuminate a precisely defined area of the square using high-performance LEDs, the GRP model has internal mounting brackets, a circumferential flange to increase rigidity and a precisely fitting cut-out in the sphere geometry.

ACCENTFORM used a special metal coating from VEROMETAL for the mirror-finish surface. In contrast to conventional chemical mirror coating techniques, the stainless steel coating is applied in a layer of approx. 1.0 mm using a 95% metal powder content. The surface guarantees very high weather resistance due to this rather “thick” metal coating. Meticulously hand-cut and extensively polished, the impressive globe light not only provides illuminating moments, but also puts many things in the shade.
