Illustrative model of the mechanical components of a tractor
ACCENTFORM was commissioned by the company GKN to produce a tractor model on a scale of 1:2 for the Agritechnika in Hanover. The model represents the company’s diverse product range in the form of traction drive, rims or drive shafts at one of the world’s largest agricultural technology trade fairs. The special thing about the project was the unusually high number of different manufacturing processes.
Using the “rapid prototyping” manufacturing process, the original 3D data sets were scaled to the desired scale and divided up so that they could be produced in polyamide using a 3D printer. This resulted in over 120 3D printed parts alone, which were then glued together to form drive shafts, clutches, multi-disc brakes or entire drive systems. In addition to the modules from the 3D printer, the rims were also made of GRP, which were supported by our milling center in the mold & model making area. The mounting system and the chassis of the tractor model, made of Plexiglas, were constructed and nested by our design team and passed on to an external company for lasering and bending.
The tubular frame construction, which is intended to represent the silhouette of a tractor, was also first designed in 3D CAD and then bent and welded using a CNC tube bending machine. In conclusion, it must be said that over 400 individual parts were used in the project.
