Ravensburger Play Figures

The game manufacturer Ravensburger is known worldwide for its board games and puzzles. In order to arouse the curiosity of customers, it strives to set up some popular game figures in front of the shops.

For this purpose, ACCENTFORM recreated a number of the game figures in sizes between 1.2-1.5 metres. These were four characters from four different games: the rabbit from Lotti Karotti, the penguin from Plitsch-Platsch Pinguin, the cockroach from Kakerlakak and the mole from Mole Company.

First, 3D models were created from the 2D figures. Then the greatly enlarged play figures were CNC-milled into a hard foam and encased in GRP using the hand-laminate process. Finally, priming and airbrush painting took place. Particularly important was the adherence to the corporate design. A base plate gave the objects a pedestal that protects against falling over and theft.

Ostrich sculptures

ACCENTFORM was commissioned by the German Armed Forces to produce two large ostrich sculptures after winning a tender.

The birds, which are a good two and a half meters in size, were initially carved by hand from templates. To give the sculpture stability, the feet were welded from solid steel tubing and attached to a steel pedestal. In order to obtain a hard and weatherproof surface, the bird sculptures were completely covered with a 2 mm thick layer of GRP using the hand-laminating process.

After the surface was filled, sanded and primed, the pair of ostriches could be given a realistic appearance by airbrush painting. Since May 2018, the giant ostriches have adorned the traffic circle near the Hardenberg barracks, greeting passing visitors to the garrison town of Strausberg.

Horse figure Spirit

The wild mustang Spirit is the hero in a well-known Super RTL series and is now known not only to girls between 6-9 years. He is a special friend and soulmate of 12-year-old Lucky and accompanies her daily on her exciting adventures.

On behalf of the advertising agency PIE Five Marketing, ACCENTFORM produced a true-tooriginal 2m high Spirit figure made of GRP for the children’s TV station Super RTL. First, the body was milled from Styrofoam on a CNC machining center using the CAD files supplied. In order to obtain a hard and weatherproof surface, the soft Styrofoam surface was coated with a 2 mm thick GRP layer using the hand lay-up process. In order to create a smooth and even surface, the entire area must be filled, sanded and primed. This work process is very time-consuming and essentially affects the product quality. Professional painting by graffiti artist BeNeR1 breathed life into the horse sculpture. To protect the airbrush painting and for a nature-identical look, an extremely matte clear coat was finally applied. The finished sculpture is mounted on a mobile base plate with four wheels to ensure mobility at changing exhibition locations.

Paw Patrol Figuren aus GFK - Werbefiguren

Paw Patrol – dog figures

The popular Canadian series PAW Patrol inspires children of preschool age all over the world. The heroic rescue squadron, consisting of six rescuers on four paws, is the center of attention. We were allowed to produce two of these adorable characters in large format on behalf of the Advertising agency PIE Five Marketing the fearless, smart Skye and the athletic Chase.

First, the figures were milled from Styrofoam on a CNC machining center using the CAD files supplied. In order to obtain a hard and weatherproof surface, the soft Styrofoam models were coated with a 2 mm thick GRP layer using the hand laminate process. To create a smooth and even surface, the entire laminate layer had to be
sanded and primed.

The graffiti artist BeNeR1 ensured that the animal sculptures were painted true to the original. To protect the surface, matte clear lacquer was finally applied.

In the end, the beautiful sight of these two friendly dog heroes will delight not only children’s hearts…

Giant salamander

The well-known Hannover Adventure Zoo is currently being expanded by the construction of a new Zoologicum themed area. This theme world will present giant tortoises, amphibians, sloths, macaws, coatis & co. in a stimulating appearance. In keeping with this themed landscape, we were commissioned with an oversized salamander figure that crawls along the tower at the entrance to the Zoologicum to welcome visitors.
The five-meter-long amphibian replica was first milled in several segments using our 3-axis milling machine. The assembled figure was then coated with polyurea hotcoat. The orange-skinlike spray structure not only gives the fire salamander an authentic surface, but also makes it hard and weatherproof. Four stainless steel plates were provided on the feet for later attachment to the tower’s facade and integrated into the feet. After being primed in black, the giant salamander was realistically painted by hand and sealed with a glossy coat of varnish in a lifelike manner.

Customer feedback:

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank you and your team. The implementation of our idea, a larger-than-life salamander, you have succeeded very well. Here in the house, everyone is thrilled with the result. On Friday, the figure will hang in its final place and inspire people for animals. A special thanks to Mrs. Wagner, for the friendly support.” (Detlef Meiners)

GIANT HANDS FOR IAA-Fair

At the internationally important IAA automotive trade fair in Frankfurt 2019, AUDI has presented its new convertible model in a particularly eye-catching way: the Audi A5 40 TDI quattro is staged by two white giant hands. This staging makes the trade fair stand a special eye-catcher, to which we were allowed to make our contribution.

By order of the company Metron eging GmbH we made the two over 5m large hands out of FRP.
First, the oversized hands were milled from Styrofoam on a five-axis CNC machining center using the CAD files supplied. To obtain a hard surface, the Styrofoam models were coated with a 3 mm thick layer of FRP using the hand laminate process. To keep the oversized hands as light as possible, the entire Styrofoam was then removed from the inside.

To create a smooth and even surface, the entire area had to be filled, sanded, filled, sanded and primed. This was followed by a white matte paint finish. Good cooperation with the customer ensured trouble-free assembly to the customer’s framework.

Laughing gum

Our customer commissioned us to produce two popular advertising figures from GRP in XXL format for a new opening of his candy world in Oberhausen.

The figure “Dickie” of the Super Dickmann’s Foam Kisses in a height of approx. 1m with changing headgear should sweeten the entrance to the store. The children as well as adults should get big eyes at the 2.5m high laughing gum standing in the back. His big googly eyes move in a certain rhythm. However, until the eyes got big and the desire for sweets a few things had to be done.

The Dickie as well as the laughing rubber were carved out of Styrofoam. For a firmer and paintable surface, the styrofoam was covered with GRP. Dickie was thus ready for the “chocolate coating”. The special feature are the original Chucks in shoe size 56, but the white shoes still had to be colored in orange.

The laughing gum had to be stripped of the styrofoam after the coating to make room for the technology. After this and the finishing touches were completed, life could also be breathed into the laughing gum with the bright colors using the airbrush process. The separately laminated/painted eyes were then inserted on the axles in the eye sockets and wired to the technology inside and programmed with a Siemens logo at the desired rate.

Beach party with Malibu

ADVERTISING FIGURE MADE OF GFK – FLAMINGO, PINEAPPLE, COCONUT

Malibu is the world’s best-selling rum-based liqueur with natural taste of coconut. This popular drink is an ingredient of many cocktails. In combination with orange, passion fruit or pineapple juice, it creates many wonderful drinks with a dash of the Caribbean.

ACCENTFORM made giant pineapple and coconut fruit and funky flamingo Mali. These aesthetic objects are a real eye-catcher at any beach party and help create a casual and fun atmosphere.

The 2.5 m high flamingo was carved freehand from STYROPOR based on a photo template and then the surface was coated with a 2 mm thick GRP layer.

The outfit of the hip bird is completed by the blue glasses and colorful bathing slippers. The giant fruits – coconut and pineapple were modeled in CAD and then CNC-milled from Styrofoam.

The coconut was given a surface with a natural fiber look, while the pineapple enjoyed a fruity airbrush finish.

JCVD - Skulptur XXL

Oversized sculpture of JCVD

At the end of 2017, the new streaming series “Jean-Claude Van Johnson” started exclusively on AMAZON. For the worldwide film premiere on 12.12.2017 in Paris, we were commissioned by the event agency GRAL to create an oversized sculpture. The statue is to represent the famous action hero Jean Claude van Damme, who plays himself in the JCVJ series.

Part of the order was two columns including pedestal under the feet of the monumental figure. The columns were made of styrofoam and the pedestals were made of wooden panels and finished with marble look.

We first roughly milled the 2.7 m wide figure from Styrofoam. All details, such as facial features and muscle parts were modeled manually by the artist Waldemar Neumann according to photo templates. The Styrofoam surface was then given texture and gold patina. Our sculpture literally went down well in Paris, cut a fine figure next to the action hero at the premiere and even made it into the “Bild” newspaper.

Big TV mouse figure

Who doesn’t know her – The Mouse from the Westdeutscher Rundfunk, known from the “Sendung mit der Maus”?! On March 7, 2021, she will be an incredible 50 years old and still enjoys great popularity. She has accompanied us for several generations – without a word, but always with a loud wink. 😉

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of TheMouse and its laughing and factual stories, ACCENTFORM was commissioned by WDR to produce a big mouse figure. We scaled and adapted the 3D data provided by the customer. Based on these data, we milled and assembled the model in several segments using our 5-axis milling machines. This styrofoam figure was then encased in fiberglass using a hand-laminating process. The surface was sanded by hand and colored by airbrush according to exact customer specifications. A final, extremely matt clear varnish serves to protect the airbrush paint. To give the large mouse a stable hold, the finished sculpture was mounted on a round metal plate. A special highlight for us during the work was the visit of the WDR film team. The station accompanied part of the production and summarized it in a film report.
