80 chrome-plated balls for Voestalpine
ACCENTFORM produced a total of 80 GRP spheres of different sizes with a chrome finish for a visitor and exhibition center in Linz, Austria. These were realized as closed and cut-out spheres, as well as walk-on elements in diameters of 1000 mm, 1500 mm and 2500 mm. This meant that the objects could be flexibly equipped with media design elements or used as an experience cell.
The spheres were mounted on the ceiling using a steel cable and thus form the impressive highlight of the exhibition.
The client provides data for trimming the sphere. All spheres are attached to the ceiling with a rope, the respective rope length is specified by the client.

More InformationOne positive model is required for the production of each ball. The positive models are milled on our machining center in a model-making hard foam. The surface of the milled models is manually leveled and sealed. Two-part production molds are created using the resulting models. The production molds are used to manufacture the individual balls. The objects are manufactured using the injection process and therefore have a smooth surface. The resulting seam at the equator is evened out. The surface must be smooth and even so that it can be painted with a chrome lacquer. All spheres have fire protection class B1 in accordance with DIN 4102.
The 80 requested balls are broken down as follows:
1000 mm ball: 32 pieces, of which 30 are shot and 2 are cut.
1500 mm ball: 32 pieces, of which 16 pieces are closed, 14 pieces are cut and 2 pieces are double-cut.
2500 mm ball: 16 pieces, 4 pieces closed, 7 pieces cut, 1 piece double cut and 4 pieces cut and accessible.
Accessibility is created and installed on site. However, rigging must be carried out by a licensed, professional rigging team.
