A giant figure catches the eyes of passers-by

With the “Konsum-Angler” project, ACCENTFORM created an impressive large figure made of glass fiber reinforced plastic (GRP) for public spaces. The approximately 5.10 meter high sculpture shows a seated angler and is positioned on the roof of an office building Joachims Carrée in the center of Hanover. The sculpture was commissioned by GETEC ImmobilienThe idea and design of the unusual figure came from Helmar Brodehl of the company B:SiGN from Hanover. Its size, colorfulness and symbolic statement make the figure a striking eye-catcher in the urban environment.

The production of this XXL figure began with CNC-milled negative molds made of polystyrene, in which individual figure parts were precisely laminated from GRP. The hand laminate process guarantees a homogeneous layer structure and ensures particularly high weather and temperature resistance outdoors. The uniform laminate structure permanently prevents material stresses and micro-cracks in the painted surface.

Depending on the geometry, the laminate thickness varies between approx. 4 mm and 6 mm, supplemented by additional sandwich reinforcements in the back area. Inside the sculpture, a hot-dip galvanized steel supporting structure provides stability and also serves as a secure attachment to the building. The fishing rod and fishing line are made of bent and painted stainless steel tubing. All metal components were manufactured in collaboration with STAMA-Schlosserei GmbH.

The completely pre-assembled large plastic figure with a total weight of around 1,500 kg was transported to Hanover on a low-loader. The installation on the roof was carried out within a few hours at night so as not to interfere with city traffic. The shopping bags, which appear to be hanging from a fishing line, are statically attached to the façade.

The “Konsum-Angler” is a successful example of the successful collaboration between creative design, precise manufacturing and the economy, which can realize such a project with financial strength. While B:SiGN developed the conceptual idea and the creative design, ACCENTFORM was responsible for the technical planning and realization of the large figure. The project demonstrates comprehensive expertise in the production of large plastic figures, individual art objects and durable custom-made products for outdoor use.
